Dakar — Officials of Liberia's leading opposition Congress for Democratic Change party have allegedly unveiled a "massive fraud" and are appealing for an instant intervention threatening "before it's too late". 

The party's flag bearer Mr Winston Tubman claimed that 800 thousand supplementary voting cards were "fraudulently" introduced into the ballots during Tuesday's polls.

He told reporters that his party has accordingly informed the election commission and the international election observers to urgently investigate his "legitimate" claims.

Mr Tubman said his party was "seriously taken by surprise" of the findings and urged the international community and the election commission to take the revelation seriously.
Meanwhile, the National Election Commission has declared the provisional results of Tuesday's polls which placed President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf's Unity Party in the lead with 44.5 per cent.
Declaring the results at a press conference, Election Commissioner James Fromoyan named the Congress for Democratic Change of Mr Tubman as second place winner with 26.5 per cent.
The third place winner is the retired General Prince Yormie Johnson with 13.5 per cent.
Out of the 210.573 votes already counted, the Commission said 195.178 were valid while 15.395 or 7.3 per cent were nullified.


The Commission announced that the final results of the poll will be made public on October 26.
